At Gateway we are passionate about doing business in Africa. We strive to deploy world class communications infrastructure to facilitate pan-African and international communications and trade. With almost 15 years operating experience and a network spanning the continent, we are a long way to achieving this goal.

At present we already deliver a comprehensive suite of communications services to over 79 telephone operators and around 900 corporations working in Africa.

We own and operate one of Africa’s most advanced regional and international networks, supporting the requirements of the continent’s telephone and data users. We manage diverse satellite and fibre connectivity across Africa via 404 links into over 40 African countries. Our network provides global connectivity for the continent through major teleport and switching facilities in Europe and the America’s and in Southern Africa, we maintain an extensive MPLS network with terrestrial cross-border connectivity.
 
 
INNOVATION
We have a long track record of innovation in African communications, including:
  • Gateway received one of the first VAN’s licenses in South Africa
  • As the technological innovator, we delivered the first EDI services in Africa in 1992
  • To support Africa’s fledgling mobile networks, Gateway launched international voice service via satellite in Africa in 1992
  • In 1994 we connected Africa’s first frame relay circuit in partnership with British Telecom
  • Our company built one of the first regional data networks in Africa, connecting South Africa, Botswana and Namibia in 1995
  • We launched a commercial ISP in South Africa in 1998
  • Gateway built one of Africa’s first dedicated Teleport and NOC facilities established in Belgium in 1998
  • As a leader in communications technology, we were one of the first companies to commercially deploy VoIP services in 1999
  • We launched a suite of data and roaming products to support the roll-out of Africa’s growing mobile carriers in 2003
  • In response to liberalisation we launched corporate voice services in South Africa in 2004
