Vodacom South Africa
Delivering high quality voice to all destinations
Vodacom is a leading cellular network in South Africa and was the first in the world to introduce pre-paid mobile. Now pan-African in reach, the Vodacom Group provides GSM services to more than 35 million customers throughout South Africa, Tanzania, Lesotho, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mobile voice services have always been the largest contributor to Vodacom’s revenue with services that include national, international and roaming. As mobile penetration rates increase throughout Africa, so does the demand for international traffic.
In 2007 Vodacom SA contracted Gateway Communications to carry its international outbound traffic. As a trusted pan-African carrier, with direct connectivity into over 40 African countries, Gateway Communications guaranteed premium quality calls, ensuring that Vodacom SA could offer high quality voice services with guaranteed CLI to al destinations.
Vodacom now switches 80% of its international outbound traffic via Gateway Communications.
“Our partnership with Gateway and the premium call quality they provide means that our customers can communicate effectively and affordably. As fewer calls are dropped and calls are longer in duration, we have seen a positive effect on our revenues and margins, allowing us to remain competitive in this market space”.
