Total
Communications for Africa
Welcome!
2009 is shaping up to be another incredibly exciting year for African
telecommunications. As the company building the future networks for
Africa, Gateway Communications will ensure all our
customers have all the advantages of our continued investment
and innovation.
It's exciting for us to be recognised by our peers, that's why we're proud to have recently won SatCom's 'Satellite Provider of the Year' award
as well as the prestigious GTB Innovation Award. We will continue
to innovate and improve this year and beyond.
In this issue of Talking Drums we look at the benefits of the hybrid
approach Gateway is deploying for improved communications in Africa.
We believe that the future landscape of total communications
in Africa will follow this approach.
Later this month, with the introduction of SEACOM, Eastern Africa will for the first
time have access to high-speed connectivity with the cable providing
1.2 Terabits of capacity. As you'd expect, we're also a stakeholder in WACS, the new cable along the
west coast of Africa. We've got Africa covered.
The retail sector is one area, where satellite is often the best
answer, where shopping outlets, gas stations and eateries can make
huge savings with high utilisation of low bandwidth for applications
like POS, ATMs, and information updates.
Meanwhile, we continue to build on our network to better serve our customers,
which means an extensive upgrade of our network. I'd like to introduce the man
behind this work, Phil Braden, our new Group Projects Director.
As always, I look forward to hearing
your feedback and hope you enjoy this latest edition of Talking
Drums.
